Education
Doug was at Northern Illinois University as a Business major when he was intrigued by several of his friends who were Computer Science majors. He told his dad he was interested in computers who said "I think its a fad but OK as long as you get your business degree". He began taking his elective courses in computer science and spent time becoming a "mole person" from those who named the computer science students spending nights in the basement of the Swen Parsons library computer lab. While in graduate school Doug was a TA (Teachers/Professor Assistant) in the Marketing Department. Perseverance prevailed completing a BS in Marketing and an MBA with an emphasis in Computer Science, a perfect combination.
Accenture/Infinium Software
From college Doug was hired by Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Custom development projects included the USDA, United Airlines (Passenger Revenue Accounting System) and Illinois Department of Revenue. Promoted rapidly to Manager and now married with children, the traveling consulting lifestyle became challenging and he moved to positions as a software developer and product manager. Software2000 (Infinium Software) hired Doug as VP of Professional Services. It was a rapid growth company providing ERP software (financials/HR/payroll) on the IBM AS/400 competing with JD Edwards and SAP. Doug defined structured delivery service packages while growing the team to over 100 consultants across multiple US offices and the UK. Infinium grew to over $100M in revenue and became a publicly traded company.
ATG/Oracle
The internet had now taken over. Doug joined Art Technology Group (ATG) as the Midwest Director of Professional Services. ATG was a dot.com eCommerce startup (Dynamo application server) that went through wild growth and publicly traded stock value escalation to near bankruptcy. ATG survived with Doug becoming VP of Professional Services. While at ATG Doug supported many of the largest eCommerce sites including Target, Best Buy, Walmart, DSW Shoe, Telus, Ulta, and many more. ATG was acquired by Oracle Corporation and is their eCommerce offering.
hybris/SAP
A Germany based eCommerce software company called hybris (yes the "h" should never be capitalized) was entering the US market. It seemed risky at the time, but hybris was successful in Europe and just getting started in the US. hybris focus was B2B commerce, as opposed to ATG which was B2C commerce. Doug became employee 8 in the US to help support client implementations. hybris grew like weed in NA with Doug supporting and growing the Professional Services team and also became General Manager building out the flagship US hybris office in Chicago (2 floors/24,000 sf). hybris was an outstanding entrepreneurial, growth, people, culture, and business experience. hybris was acquired by SAP and is now known as SAP Commerce.
IBM
After several years at SAP, Doug joined IBM Consulting to lead the NA hybris practice as part of the SAP Enterprise Applications Practice. At the time IBM was selling Websphere commerce, but shortly thereafter sold it to HCL. The team expanded to include the SAP CX portfolio of products and also SAP BRIM (subscription billing). Doug led hybris support for IBM Consulting at AmerisourceBegren, Southwire, Grainger and other clients. While at a hybris conference in Barcelona, he learned from the IBM European team the success they were having with SAP BRIM in Tolling. Ultimately this led to RFP's solutioning SAP BRIM and S/4HANA into several tolling agencies in the US with Doug spending 3 years supporting tollway back office implementation and operations. Doug's services practice at IBM was built organically to over $150M in solution sales and delivery over 7 years.
